Jennifer's Story

It pleases us to introduce someone who came to Pathway as a client, who experienced tremendous growth while here, and who is now a member of our Pathway House staff!
Meet Jennifer—a former licensed physical therapist assistant and a proud military veteran.
Jennifer grew up in North Carolina, where her desire for a life of service led her to join the Air National Guard. After receiving a range of training, she served as a lab technician during Operation Desert Storm.
Six years later, she returned to civilian life in a travel nursing program that landed her in Greenwood. Although she enjoyed her job, health concerns required her to use some of her savings to take a few months off.
Unfortunately, the COVID pandemic hit and a new job could not be found.
Jennifer’s homelessness resulted from circumstances that were devastating yet beyond her control. Unable to sustain her rent, the inevitable eviction happened.
Desperate to avoid the streets, she moved in with a friend who had a serious alcohol problem. Things got progressively worse; she became very depressed and even considered suicide - but mercifully, God heard her prayers.
She remembered hearing about Pathway House and reached out to us for help.
Jennifer recalls a huge weight being lifted when she arrived, and was soon making herself useful in a host of ways. She thrived in an environment where her faith and servant’s heart were celebrated and where significant wounds from her youth could be shared and healed.
Greater Greenwood United Ministries assisted Jennifer with successfully treating her physical health and her emotional health rebounded as well. Her new environment here fanned the flames of her faith and Jennifer was Baptized in our Worship Center.
Jennifer’s leadership qualities were soon apparent, and she demonstrated a natural ability to connect with the other clients, providing them with compassion, encouragement, and wisdom.
We selected her to be a Client Assistant, giving her the opportunity to receive training for advancement as part of our Work Skills program. She also completed Reboot Recovery – a course to help clients deal with their past trauma.
In late 2023, we hired Jennifer as a full-time employee in our women’s facility where she continues to bless everyone in her midst.
She has represented Pathway House at various Veteran’s functions and remains grateful to have served her country with distinction.
Jennifer now shares an apartment with another cherished Pathway House employee who is also a former client—more lives transformed to God’s great glory!
