“ And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28
Stacie actually witnessed Romans 8:28 play out in her own life.
The journey that landed Stacie in our women’s program took a long but almost circular path—she grew up decades ago only two blocks away from our campus!
Stacie’s father worked in one of the nearby textile mills, an industry that proudly dominated the Greenwood economy in those days. Like most, her home-life was firmly centered in the church. She graduated from Greenwood High, but relocated to another state not long after.
For years she worked very successfully for one of the nation’s largest home improvement chains. Like many single folks without children, she worked hard, enjoyed herself, and didn’t really bother much about long term financial planning.
In 2022, her brother and sister approached her about moving back to Greenwood to care for their mother who was terminally ill, and she agreed.
A year later her mother died, and Stacie was not prepared for the challenges she was about to confront. In addition to grieving the loss of her mother, she soon discovered that her siblings had taken control of her mom’s assets years before.
They moved Stacie from the mother’s house into a local motel, while they gradually broke the news that there wasn’t going to be anything left of the estate. After a few weeks, her sister called to say that the motel was getting too expensive and Stacie would need to find somewhere else to go.
With little money and few options, she came to Pathway House and we were able to enroll her that same day.
Stacie had neglected her own health while concentrating on her mother, so our network of providers helped her address those needs. She received counseling for her grief, now complicated by anger and resentment towards her siblings.
In the years since she left home, the once fiery faith of her youth had diminished, but the embers were still there. Participation in our Bible studies, morning devotions, and personalized counseling began to fan those embers back into flame.
Her relationship with God deepened; she renewed her commitment to Christ, and she was baptized in our chapel just a stone’s throw from her childhood home!
As she became emotionally and spiritually stronger, we began to talk about exit strategies, employment opportunities, and independent housing.
A large local business advertised an attractive job opening and Stacie applied, feeling that her prior training and experience might make her a good fit. During the interview, the HR director was so impressed that he decided to offer her a supervisory position that had just become available.
Stacie is now living in her own apartment, has an excellent income, full benefits, and a new lease on life as well!
Stacie says “I thank God for Pathway House…He truly does work all things for good when we love Him and are devoted to His purpose!”
